Motivation from Prophet Muhammed’s (ﷺ) Life Examples

Feeling low? Feeling the need to listen to a motivational speaker on YouTube? Do not worry, the world has 1400 century old heritage – but as new, compatible and relatable to our problems today – in the form of the heritage of Prophet Muhammed ﷺ, and the way he reacted to seriously dismaying chain of incidents in his life on earth.

The pagans of Makkah had crossed all the limits of civilization and social modesty in the grudge they had for the noble Prophet ﷺ. They used to dump all the filth from their house & surroundings, in front of the Prophet’s ﷺ sacred door, and weren’t satisfied with as such. They also used to throw heaps of trash, from difference places: the stinky, rotten or decomposing insides of animals, cattle excrement and all the other trash possible, at his doorstep, so that if the Prophet ﷺ remained inside his house, he should suffer, and if he went out, he should feel an ordeal to cross it. And when he used to go out of his house in Makkah, the social elements like Abu Lahab’s wife used to lay thorns on his way, in addition to being involved in the aforementioned acts.

Prophet Muhammed ﷺ bore this pain with a great level of patience & calm. Sometimes he ﷺ used to merely say: “O Banu Abd Munaf! What way of neighborship are you involved in?” (meaning how differently and cruelly are you treating your neighbor – that was himself). Talking about the pagans’ ill-conduct, there were also instances when one of the pagans said to his pal that he wouldn’t talk to him until he spat on the Prophet’s ﷺ blessed face (astaghfirullah). However, when that godforsaken person did so, Allah showed a miracle – the person happened to spit on himself while in action. (Reference: Dalail an-Nubuwwah by Imam Bayhaqi, 2:336)

In such a disturbing and tensed environment, no human feels relaxed. Neither will he be able to do his chores as they are ought to be. And if such conditions and brutality remain one-sided for years, and when people around him wish to go for his life, as it was in the Prophet’s ﷺ case, then just imagine how depressing, a person may become.

Remember! Allah tests his beloved slaves the most, and there’s none more beloved to Allah than Prophet Muhammed ﷺ! And the tests, pain and ordeals that Prophet Muhammed ﷺ went through were the most, by any soul Allah ever created. Yet, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ continued his propagation for the sake of Allah’s pleasure and didn’t bring about even an iota’s reduction in his work or enthusiasm. It was not so easy.

Any human being, even today, has an example in Prophet Muhammed ﷺ to follow, under such conditions. We usually put our guard down under tremendous stress, and surrender. We also take such a decision in life, be it be in personal or professional matters, which we later regret.

Try to remain calm and relaxed. Opt for goodness. Be good and do good - for yourself, for your family and the society at large, irrespective of cast and creed, and pray to Allah for everyone’s guidance – just like Prophet Muhammed ﷺ did!
