Two Bouquets – The Prophetic Companions & The Prophetic Household (Ra)
At the start of a new Islamic year, the Muslim Ummah remembers and honors the legacies of Sayyiduna Umar (ra) and the Ahlul Bayt (ra). These legacies are a stark reminder that the love for Ahlul Bayt (the Prophetic family) and the respect for Sahaba (the Prophetic companions) is the ethos of the Islamic faith.

Let us take a look at how strong coordination existed between Sayyiduna Umar and Sayyidua Ali (Allah be pleased with them both).
Sayyiduna Ali (ra) was Sayyiduna Umar’s (ra) principal consultant in the latter’s caliphate, in all the affairs and problems faced. When Sayyiduna Ali (ra) used to sugest, Sayyiduna Umar (ra) would carry it out with full conviction and belief. This trust can be summed up with Sayyiduna Umar’s (ra) one statement: “If it were not for Ali, Umar would have perished.” (Musnad Ahmad bin Hambal)
As far as Sayyiduna Ali (ra) was concerned, he always advised Sayyiduna Umar (ra) with utmost sincerity and purity of intention. When asked by the caliph, Sayyiduna Ali (ra) advised Sayyiduna Umar (ra) to not to lead the army by himself to fight the Persians. He cautioned that if he left, it will create a power vacuum – an aspect which was far dangerous than the enemy in the battlefield.
Now just think over this: had Sayyiduna Muhammed ﷺ announced Ali ؓ to be the caliph after himself, would Sayyiduna Ali ؓ ignored the Prophet’s ﷺ wishes and supported Sayyiduna Umar (ra) wholeheartedly, who had supposedly taken away his chance of being a caliph?
On the other hand, Sayyiduna Umar (ra) is reported to have been the first person to congratulate Sayyiduna Ali (ra) when the Holy Messenger ﷺ stated the virtues of Ali in Ghadir Khum. (Ref: Musnad Ahmad bin Hambal).
Everybody loved Sayyiduna Ali (ra). In fact, the sahaba considered the personality of Ali ؓ was a touchstone of checking a person’s faith.
Dear brothers and sisters, the love for the Ahlul Bayt comes directly in your heart if you love Sayyiduna Rasoolullah ﷺ for the sake of Allah. And the respect for the Sahaba gets instilled in your heart anyway if you are a true follower of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah ﷺ, since they were the staunchest in following each of his actions.
