The Wisdom Hidden in the Beloved Prophet’s (PBUH) Beautiful Name
Name is a word, and a word is a combination of alphabets. It is often observed that if one or a few of the alphabets of a name is/are removed, then the name loses its meaning, or it doesn’t give any meaning of its basic nature.
However, that is not the case with regards to Prophet Muhammed’s ﷺ name – it is always consistent with the nature of its root word. The Arabic name محمد means the praiseworthy. If the first letter is removed, then حمد remains which means praise and tribute.
If the second letter is removed, then remains مد which also doesn’t lose any of its enrooted meaning: it means to ascent, altitude, length etc. - and as such still has a positive connotation, and gives us a stark reminder of Prophet Muhammed’s ﷺ elevated stature in the Sacred Court of Allah.
And finally, if the third letter too is removed, then remains only د which means “dalalah” – dalalah means to indicate – since Prophet Muhammed ﷺ in the indicator, teacher and flagbearer of the oneness of Allah (Tawheed). He ﷺ is the one who connects divinity with servitude. It is through the Prophet ﷺ that humanity reached Allah – through the will of Allah!
