Juz 13 - Wamā Ubarri’u Summary in English
• Surah Yusuf is spread over Juz 12 and 13. This chapter starts with mentioning the truthfulness of Quran
• Sayyiduna Yusuf (alaihissalam) dreams that 11 starts, the sun and the moon prostrate him. He talks about it to his father Sayyiduna Yaqoob (alaihissalam), who asks his son not to state it to any of his brothers.
• However, forgetfully/mistakenly, Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) mentions about the dream to his brothers, who start envying him and plan to kill him. They somehow convince their father and take Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) in the wilderness.
• They push Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) in a well, put an animal’s blood on his shirt and return home and tell their father that a wolf killed Yusuf (a.s.). Sayyiduna Yaqoob (a.s.), understood their plot, remained concerned about Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) and kept weeping day and night.
• A caravan was passing by; it took Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) out of the well and sold him in a market in Egypt.
• Sayyiduna Yusuf’s (a.s.) elegance became talk of the town. Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) was purchased by a minister of the Egyptian king. Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) remained in his palace honorably.
• The minister’s wife Zulekha fell for Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) and invited him toward the sin; Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) remained chaste.
• When the minister came to know about it, his wife put false allegations of Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.), due to which he was jailed.
• Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) came to be known as a pious person. He also interpreted dreams; he did so for two of his fellow prisoners.
• A few days later the king of Egypt dreams of 7 fat cows eating 7 skinny cows. He looks for an interpretation.
• One of the prisoners whose dream was interpreted by Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) was free. He asked the king to send him to Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.).
• Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) tells him that there will be 7 years of good cultivation, followed by the next 7 years of poor production. Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) advised to store the goods for the years of drought.
• Hearing this the king asked to bring Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) to him. But Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) said that he will not come out of the jail until the false accusations of him be cleared off.
• When interrogated, Zulekha admitted that it was she who erred, and that Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) was clean and truthful. Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) gets his charges cleared off and he comes out of the jail, now as an advisor to the king, and as an autonomous resource/finance manager/minister.
• Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) was an expert in financial and resource planning. When the entire world faced famine, Egypt still had ample food resources, and many turned toward it for seeking support.
• Sayyiduna Yusuf’s (a.s.) brothers too came to him to Egypt to procure some eatables.
• When Sayyiduna Yusuf’s (a.s.) saw them, he recognized them, but they couldn’t. Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) supplied them food resources, quietly kept their money (with which they procured the supplies) in the food bags, and also asked them to bring his brother Binyameen next time.
• When the brothers returned to Sayyiduna Yaqoob (a.s.), they praised their “helper”. They also said that he asked for Binyameen to be brought in the next trip. Sayyiduna Yaqoob (a.s.) asked his children to take an oath for Binyameen’s safety, which they did. The noble father also asked his children to enter the destination city with its different gates.
• When Binyameen was brought to Sayyiduna Yusuf’s (a.s.) court, he seated him separately next to himself and said that he is his brother Yousuf. When the brothers were returning, he kept his royal glass in Binyameen’s bag.
• When searched, it was obviously found in Binyameen’s bag, so he was held. The brothers put a false allegation that Yousuf and Binyameen are alike (both were brothers from the same mother).
• The brothers went on to say about Binyameen’s arrest in Egypt to Sayyiduna Yaqoob (a.s.) who then wept so much that he lost his eyesight. However, Sayyiduna Yaqoob (a.s.) advised his sons not to lose hope from Allah’s mercy.
• When the brothers came to Egypt for the next time to seek help, Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) couldn’t bear their helplessness. He revealed his identity and said that Allah favored him and his brother Binyameen, and that He does so to those who remain patient and observe piety.
• Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) was not just a king, but also a prophet. He pardoned his brothers.
• Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) sent one of his shirts and asked the brothers to put it on their father’s face. He also told that his eyesight would resume to normalcy. It happened as told.
• All the brothers sought Sayyiduna Yaqoob’s (a.s.) pardon, which the noble prophet of Allah granted.
• Then the entire family went to Egypt to meet Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.). They were welcomed with state honors and protocols. When the family comprising Sayyiduna Yaqoob (a.s.), noble wife, and his 11 saw Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) in his royal court, they all fell into prostration to Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.).
• Sayyiduna Yusuf (a.s.) told his father that his dream which he saw years ago, as interpreted, has come true.
• This is a beautiful story of downfall and uprising, of persistence, piety, and patience.
• *Surah Ra’ad:* The theme of this chapter is Tawheed, Risalah, and the hereafter.
• Allah talks about His Might and Majesty, by inviting people to think about the ways in which skies are created, which stand without the support of any pillar. Other natural things that Allah mentions are: the movements of the sun and the moon, the vastness of the earth, the fixation of mountains on lands as anchors, the flow of water bodies, the continuous change in the days and the nights, varieties of fruits etc. Allah says that those who use their minds have indications of the Existence of Allah in them.
• Then Allah talks about His Knowledge. Today, science may reveal the gender of the embryo, but the knowledge of the nature of the being, its sustenance, knowledge, manners, etc. lies only with Allah.
• Allah then says that everything in the heavens and the earth are prostrating to Him, some willingly, and some by force.
• Allah talks about nature, prophethood, Quran, Imaan etc. for people to ponder.
• *Surah Ibraheem:* Allah talks about the truthfulness of the Holy Quran, but says that the disbelievers prioritize the world over the hereafter, pose a hurdle in the way of truth etc.
• This chapter mentions Sayyiduna Ibraheem (alaihissalam), and the fact that he left his dear wife and infant in a desert all to themselves (at the Command of Allah) is mentioned with a prime focus.
• Allah first mentions Bani Israel.
• Verse 21 talks about the allegations which the sinners will spite against each other.
• The people in the Hell will then blame and criticize Shaytan. He’ll say in reply that he just gave them a thought of a sin, and that they themselves sinned by doing it practically.
• Belief and disbelief are then being explained with examples of a strong tree and weak plants respectively.
• Verse 37 onward talks about Sayyiduna Ibraheem (a.s.). When he left Sayyidah Hajera (a.s.) and the infant Sayyiduna Ibraheem (a.s.) in Makkah where there was nothing then, he said prayed to Allah: “O Allah! I’ve left few of my family members near your house, so that they establish prayers. So make their hearts inclined toward them with love and affection, provide them all kinds of fruits and sustenance.
• Subsequently, Sayyiduna Ibraheem (a.s.) thanks Allah for being given sons during old age, in the form of Sayyiduna Is’haq (a.s.) and Sayyiduna Ismaeel (a.s.).
• Then Sayyiduna Ibraheem (a.s.) prayed for the forgiveness of his parents and all the believers.
