Beloved Prophet Muhammad’s (ﷺ) Mercy towards Infants

1. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (ra) narrated that once the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kissed Imam Hasan and al-Aqra bin Habis al-Tamimi was present there, so he said: “I have children and have not kissed a single one of them.” Hearing this Prophet Muhammed ﷺ said: “He who does not show mercy shall not receive mercy.” _(Bukhari & Muslim)_

2. In another hadith, Sayyida Aisha (ra), the holy Prophet’s noble wife narrated that a group of Bedouins came to see the holy Prophet ﷺ and asked if you kiss your children.” The sahaba replied “Yes”. The Bedouins said: “By Allah! As for us, we do not kiss our children.” Upon hearing this, Prophet Muhammed ﷺ said: “What can I do if Allah has removed mercy from your hearts?” _(Bukhari & Muslim)_

3. The young boy who spent his childhood and youth in the service of Prophet Muhammed ﷺ - Sayyiduna Anas bin Maalik (ra) - also narrated: “I have never seen anyone more merciful towards his dependents than Allah’s Messenger ﷺ” and continued the narration: “Ibrahim (the son of the noble Prophet ﷺ) was being fostered in one of the suburbs of Madinah. One day we accompanied the Prophet ﷺ. When he entered the house, it was filled with smoke, since the foster-father was a blacksmith. He ﷺ would lift Ibrahim in his lap, kiss him and come out.” _(Bukhari & Muslim)_

4. Abu Qatada (ra) narrated: “Once Allah’s Messenger ﷺ was performing ritual prayer while carrying Zainab’s daughter Umaama, who was his grand daughter from Abul Aas bin Rabi. When he ﷺ would stand up, he would carry her, and when he would prostrate himself, he would go into prostration, he would put her down.” _(Bukhari & Muslim)_

5. Al-Baraa (ra) narrated: “I was saw the noble Prophet ﷺ with al-Hasan bin Ali (who was then a child) on the Prophet’s ﷺ shoulders. He ﷺ said: “O Allah! I love him, so You too love him.” _(Bukhari & Muslim)_
